Complementary Couple

This is the result of my desire to make a painting with the complementary pairing of reds and greens exclusively.  I chose these two red hollyhocks because they are among my favorites.

From China, with Love

Another hollyhock painting, this one of a crimson hollyhock that I planted by the white fence in my front garden.  Hollyhocks originated in China, and I will forever be grateful that they made their way here.  Hollyhocks make me happy, and I just love this particular rich dark red against the various warm and cool greens of leaves and their shadows surrounding it, and all of that offset by the white fence behind.

On the Way to Shangri-La

This character is painted on the door of a temple on the mountain pass we traveled between Lijiang and Shangri-La in Tibet.  If anyone knows what this means, please tell me.
