Pretti Flowers

This is my rendering of a bouquet of flowers left in honor of Alex Pretti, the ICU nurse who was gunned down by ICE agents in Minneapolis on 1/24/2026.  They are partially covered in snow and ice, lest we forget the cruel irony of his martyrdom.

It's been a while since I've posted any paintings to my blog due to a ruptured aneurysm, followed by a fall that led me back to the hospital with a fractured lumbar.  It's been a slow healing process and I can only spend a couple hours a day, tops, standing at my easel.  Hopefully, that time will increase as my bones continue to mend.

Arctic Fox

Here's a painting of an arctic fox on a bed of icy snow.  I'm on an animal kick right now.  We'll see how long it lasts.

Winter Garden

This is a winter scene from the property in Arroyo Seco, New Mexico where I lived in 2018.  It was a magical 4-acre property, a sculpture garden with both natural and man-made sculptures dotted throughout, one of which (a wood totem) is visible beyond the stream on the right.  

The Wise Look Within

I thought this subject apropos of wintertime this year, a year without precedent in so many ways.  If 2020 has been an eye-opening year, 2021 must surely be the year we look within ourselves for answers to the questions posed by 2020.  The wise owl is a fitting symbol for such an endeavor.

Here's another addition to my theme-within-a-theme bird painting series.  As a child, I wanted a pet penguin really bad.  I ended up with a pet duck, which is not quite a penguin.  I'm afraid this is as close as I'll ever get to realizing my childhood dream.
