The title of this painting contains a double entendre, as the inspiration for it is a painter named Flora Yukhovich.  It's another in my abstracted botanicals series.

This painting started out with a struggle because I had ordered the wrong panel for the job.  It slowed my process way down until I gave up wanting to control the thing and let it dictate my moves.  I'm happy with the result.  Wanting to go full-on abstract at some point.

This is the first of an experimental abstract series I'm doing to refamiliarize myself with tools and techniques I first learned in 2014 but dropped the ball on for reasons I cannot fathom.  So, I'm going back to the drawing board here.  More to come...

Exploding Petunia

This was just a freeform bit of fun with the palette knife, starting with a photo reference but not adhering to it, just using it as a springboard to a more feeling-based treatment of the paint.

Fifth Street Flowers

The other day, I passed by a section of sidewalk on Fifth Street in Petaluma with the most amazing collection of wild flowers which inspired this floral study.  I may attempt another version, as I found the scene utterly enchanting.

Here's another quick little piece.  Because my time is so limited lately, I don't have the luxury of spending time on details or working in layers which require drying time.  When I only have 1-2 hours/day for painting, I'd rather work fast and see how far I get in one session.  Alla prima work is ultimately more satisfying to me, anyway.
