Church at Black Mesa

oil on panel, 11" x 14"

Here's another scene from colorful New Mexico, a simple little adobe church sits in peace and harmony with its surroundings.

I am happy to say that, after years of neglect, I have finally updated my website, www.lianaharris.com.  I had originally created it entirely in Flash, which was recently rendered obsolete.  That got me off my duff to bring my website into the 21st Century.  And for the first time, I am officially offering paintings for sale directly from the website.  I am also excited to share my digital art, which until now hasn't really had a proper showcase.  Prints of the digital paintings will be offered for sale as well in the coming days as I get the commerce end of it set up.  I will continue to post on a regular basis to my blog, though, where I share anecdotes about each painting.

Been to Church

acrylic on canvas paper, 12" x 12"

This was a quick exercise I made for myself to see how fast I could recreate a painting I had found online of what looked like a cathedral on a misty day framed by greenery, branches, and a few springtime blossoms.  I gave myself an hour and was very happy with the result.  My thanks to whoever the artist was!

On a Mission

oil on cradled panel, 9" x 12"

This is an attempt to meld architectural elements with abstraction, a painting of one corner of the historic, much photographed and painted church in Ranchos de Taos known as San Francisco de Asis Mission Church.  The simple, clean lines appealed to me, and allowed for the inclusion of my favorite subject this past year:  the bird!  In this one, I've placed the national bird of New Mexico -- the magpie -- on the ledge to the right, and two pigeons (or doves, as the case may be) to the left.  This church has a certain atmosphere conducive to spiritual healing, as I experienced firsthand a few months ago when I was lucky enough to have the place all to myself for some deep reflection . . . well, me and Lola, that is.  St. Francis would have loved her!

iPad painting, 14" x 10"

Once again on a walk with the dogs, I sat on a ledge across the street from the Open Door Christian Church on B Street in Petaluma for this sketch.
